Tyndall effect can be used to identify the colloidal solution. colloidal solutions shows tyndall effect which is nothing but scattering of light due to presence of colloidal particles having diameter 10-4 to 10-7 cm. But it is observed by use of flash light and not by the use of diffuse light.

colloidal particles can't be seen through naked eyes. So need to check by tyndall effect.

tyndall effect is used to differentiate between a true solution and a colloidal solution. a true solution is a homogeniousmixture of two or more substances havig uniform composition and same chemical properties and when this solution is filtered nothing is obtained on filer paper.whereas in a colloidal solution the solute particles are bigger enough than true solution which can not be homogenize but when this solution is filtered nothing is obtained on filter paper.thus filtration fails to decide which one is true solution and which one is colloidal thus to differentitate between the two, tyndall effect is used.the solution which reflects the light is colloidal solution and the other is true solution.
