Nonmetals are very dull looking and are easily broken compared to a normal piece of metal.

Nonmetals have high ionization energies and electro negativities. They are generally poor conductors of heat and electricity.Solid nonmetals are generally brittle, with little or no metallic luster. Most nonmetals have the ability to gain electrons easily. Nonmetals display a wide range of chemical properties and reactivities.

Nonmetals are usually dull and brittle. They are also nonconductors or very poor conductors. Furthermore, nonmetals are good insulators. Most nonmetals will easily bond to metals with the exception of the noble, or inert, gases, which are non-reactive in nature.
