What should you feed to a Maltese when home cooking?

• You will want at least 40-50% of meat. Organs are best - This includes liver and heart (usually chicken). However, lean chicken, fish, lean hamburger and lamb are fantastic
• You will want about 25-35% vegetables - This should include baby carrots, peas, green beans, broccoli, spinach, potatoes and sweet potatoes
• Starch - about 25 -35% should be rice (either white or brown) and pasta. The Maltese loves pasta and should not be kept from enjoying this healthy, wholesome food.

Veggies can be raw, however steamed is perfect also.

it eats puppy chow

Maltese are very picky eaters. of course they want to eat everything that you eat but you cant feed them everything. for example foods like hot dogd make their fur turn yellow and their eyes run. they eat puppy chow, beneful. if they dont eat it try taking white meat chicken and mixing it up with the dry food. my dog maxi eats it and it works for me

Don't get a dog food with corn meal in it. The corn is a filler in the dog food. Eukanuba or Science Diet are good choices--it is what most owners use for their Maltese dogs and they are sold at Petsmart and Petsmart.com. Canned Science Diet food may become an option if your puppy doesn't feel well or doesn't eat the cereal very much. You may also mix the cereal with the canned food or perhaps put water on the cereal to make it softer. Many dogs personally likes the crunch, but every dog is different in its eating habits. Don't forget to pick out the puppy formula, this is a very important part of the nutrition. Puppies have 'growing needs', so this is important. I don't recommend table feeding your dog scraps, even on holidays. The Maltese breed is prone to digestive problems and is very sensitive to this sort of sporadic feeding.
