  • The Kakadu Plum (terminalia ferdinandiana) has 2300 to 3150 mg of vitamin C per 100 grams of fruit.
  • A Camu Camu fruit, (myrciaria dubia) found in the Amazon, has about 2800 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C per 100 grams of fruit. It has not been widely exported and supplies, unless locally grown, are likely to be quite expensive.

Other highly rated fruits include Rosehips, Blackcurrants and Kiwi Fruit. For many people, the choice depends upon availability and cost. In such situations, good alternatives to those listed above can generally be found that will satisfy recommended dietary intakes of vitamin C.

Citrus fruids are high in vitamin C. On long ship voyages in the past, sailors often contracted and died from scurvy, which was caused by a lack of Vitamin C.

There were no fruits typically carried on such ships, and with people at the time

being ignorant of the importance of vitamin C, scurvy was a killer, with the

victims being ignorant of the cause.
