Being one of those "old" people, I can say that you can do anything you could have done when you were younger. In terms of knowledge, ways to work efficiently and people skills, most of us are great employees. We also tend to be more reliable since our families have grown and our lives are more settled. As more boomers retire, I think that there is going to be less of a stigma of being older, but it may be that willingness to accept hourly pay and a full 40 hour work week may be necessary. The thing to remember is that you will be the right person for the job you find--and to keep looking since the probability of finding it goes up with the more applications you make.

There still a few jobs for the elderly these days. You have to find them. Go to the elderly association sites to find the resources available. Most people your age are already retired.

Do I get a discount for car insurance for over 50s?

There is nothing stating that there is an over 50s car insurance discount that all middle-aged people receive. It may be possible if you ask the right person. However, it is unlikely that someone will receive this benefit if they have recent DUIs or many accidents and recent ones on their record.
