Women under 24 years old are recommended to receive the HPV vaccination. This vaccination is not yet available for men. Men are asymptomatic, so that is why it is very important to engage in protected sex with condoms and see your gynecologist for yearly pap smear examinations. Ask your gynecologist to check for HPV, if you have been sexually active without using a condom. Oral sex can also transmit the HPV virus and has been shown to cause mouth and throat cancers, as well.
