If one of the parents has AB blood, it's impossible for the child to have O. Each parent passes down either A or B, if they have them. Because the mother in this scenario has A and B, it can pass one down, and the child would not have O.

There is nearly zero percent probability that a man and woman who have blood type AB will ever have a child with blood type O.

The reason is that in order to be blood type O, you must have received a type O allele from both parents. Individuals with type AB, like the parents in the question, only carry alleles for type A and for type B - not type O.

The only way that they can have a child with Type O will be if a mutation occurs in both of them so that their type A allele can not produce the A protein or the type B allele can not produce the B protein. This will result in a type O allele. This must happen in both parents, at the same time, and the mutantions from both parents will need to fertilize each other. This would be an exceedingly rare event.

I suppose that they parents can adopt their first child. This would result in a much greater likelihood of have a Type O child. The probability would then depend on the child's ethnic background and the probability of Type O individuals with that ethnic background occurring.

We are looking for the possible blood types of a baby.

Parental information:

  • Mother type A -- can be AA or AO = contributes A or O gene
  • Father type B -- can be BB or BO = contributes B or O gene
Baby receives one gene from each parent:
  • Baby is type AB = Type AB
  • Baby is type AO = Type A
  • Baby is type BO = Type B
  • Baby is type OO = Type O
Therefore, if the parents are Type A and Type B, there is a 25% chance that the baby will be Type O. and another 25% chance that he will be Type A.

In case when both Parents have blood type of AB the gametes form will be of A, and B now the progeny will be of either AA or BB or AB but in no case it can be O so the probability is 0%

Can a child have O positive blood if both parents are A positive?

Yes, if both parents are AO genotype there is a 25% chance of the parents producing a type O child. Since both parents are Rh positive the probability of an Rh positive child in at least 75%.

Can parents both blood type O have a child with a positive?

No. If both parents are type O, the child will also be type O.

How is a child's blood type determined?

The child's blood type is determined by his or her parents' blood types. If both parents have type A, the child can have either type A or O. If both parents have type B, the child can have either type B or O. If one parent has type A and the other parent has type B, the child can have type A, B, AB, or O, but he/she is most likely to have type AB. If both parents have type O, the child will have type O.

If mother and father has A positive blood what blood type will the child have?

Could be any type, we all get our blood groups from our parents or even our grandparents so, if your child is not B positve, your child will have the same blood group as one of its four grandparents.

If both parents have A blood type can they have a child with o blood type?

Yes. Both parents could be heterozygous, that is AO, and pass on the O to their child.

Can two parents with blood type A positive have a child with O positive blood type?

Yes, if both parents have the genotype AO, then the child can have the O from both parents, phenotype O

Could a child with type B blood have parents that are both type A blood?

Only if it was adopted...the only options for that child's blood type would be A or O if the biological parents are both Type A.

Is it possible to have a child with type O if both parents are type AB?

No.

Can an a blood type child have o parents?

No. One of the parents would have to be type A or AB.

If both parents are O positive can they have a child that is A positive?

No. If both parents are type O, the child will be O. If both are A, the child can be either A or O. If both are B, the child can be either B or O. If both are AB, the child can be A, B, or AB (but not O).

Can parents with a positive blood have b positive child?

If they both have type A blood, they cannot have a child type B.

Can a A plus and A- parents have O- offspring?

If both parents have genotype AO, then it is possible albeit rare for them to have a type O- child. If either parent is type AA, then the child will be type A.
