Birds. Birds are descended from one branch of dinosaurs, the Coelurosaurs. For the bird that has the most "dinosaur" about him, check out the Emu. Crocodiles are related to dinosaurs, but more distantly, having gone their own way back in the late Triassic. Lizards, even the iguanas used in old cheap "dinosaur" movies, and the impressive Komodo dragon, sometimes (wrongly) called a "living dinosaur," are not close kin at all.

The birds are the closest living relatives of dinosaurs. In fact, they are considered dinosaurs. Ten types of birds are hawks, crows, hummingbirds, pelicans, sparrows, robins, flamingoes, parrots, penguins, and chickens. The next closest relatives to dinosaurs are crocodilians, such as crocodiles, alligators, gharials, and caiman.

Allosaurus was most closely related to other dinosaurs in the family Allosauridae, one of which was Saurophaganax. The next closest relatives of Allosaurus include dinosaurs in the clade Carcharodontosauria, such as Neovenator and Carcharodontosaurus.

What is a lizards closest relative?

Dinosaurs became extinct from starvation, they did not evolve into any other species who's descendants live today. The closest thing you can get to naming an animal who were contemporary with dinosaurs are sharks, and alligators.

What animal today came from the allosaurus?

No descendants of Allosaurus exist today. However, birds evolved from other carnivorous dinosaurs, which were relatives of Allosaurus. Thus, the closest living relatives of Allosaurus are birds. All birds are equally related to Allosaurus.

What did the spinosaurus change into today?

Spinosaurus, a large theropod, didn't evolve into any new species, and they have no living descendants. Their closest living relatives are the birds, which evolved from small, feathered theropod dinosaurs.

Are any animals today descended from dinosaurs?

In short, Yes. The most recent evidence shows that some dinosaur types did evolve into Birds. Some others may have evolved into other forms of life we have today. The more evidence that we find, the less sure we are that 'dinosaurs' evolved into only one form of life. Birds may in fact be the descendants of a 'maniraptoran' dinosaur. However it is not known at this time if other forms of dinosaurs evolved into other animals that we have today. Crocodiles, alligators and tuatara are all descended from species which would now be termed dinosaurs.

Does the ankylosaurus have ancestors that live today?

All ancestors of the dinosaurs, including those of Ankylosaurus, are extinct. The closest living relatives of Ankylosaurus and other dinosaurs are the birds. Birds evolved from small, feathered, arborial theropods. Theropods were bipedal dinosaurs with three toes on each foot, and most were lizard-hipped carnivores.

Are there any organisms alive today that is similar to an allosaurus?

Not really. The closest living relatives to allosaurus are birds.

What is the closest living relative to the stegosaurus?

Brontosaurus is an invalid name for Apatosaurus excelsus, which was a saurischian, or lizard hipped dinosaur. The theropods, the other group of lizard hipped dinosaurs, evolved into birds, which are today the closest living relatives of Apatosaurus. All birds are equally related to Apatosaurus.

How did the dinosaur evolve?

There are two parts to this: where did dinosaurs come from, and where did they go. Where from: single-celled animals=> multi-celled animals=> fish => amphibians => reptiles including dinosaurs Where to: Over millions of years, animals take a different shape. The dinosaurs' closest living relatives today are the Birds. Dinosaurs like T.Rex are related to just a normal standard chicken.

Why do turtles live and dinosaurs doesnt?
