Anaemia is low levels of haemoglobin in the blood. Haemoglobin is the molecule in red blood cells which carries oxygen around the body. Therefore people with anaemia receive less oxygen to their body tissues.

Due to these low levels of oxygen, some common symptoms of anaemia are:

* Tiredness/lethargy * Weakness * Dizzy spells * feeling faint/ fainting * Shortness of breath * Palpitations * The person may look pale
