Basically there are two different types of CV each would be used in particular circumstances.

The most common type is a chronological CV where each job is listed in date order latest to earliest. Under eaach job you put the job scope and your key achievements.

The other type of CV is a skills-based CV. This is used by people that are looking to change industry sector eg from marketing in the telecoms sector to marketing in the automotive industry. Or where they want to move into a different type of job but show they have the right skills. In this type of CV you find around 5 key skills headings eg Leadership. Then under each you put your achievements. At the end you do a very short career history - just dates, job and company.

Reverse Chronological:

This is where you start with your most recent position and work your way back. This is the most commonly used style and the most acceptable by hiring managers and recruiters.

Hybrid Style:

This style allows you to highlight key achievements and work completed in positions that might not be your current role. This style works especially well for people looking to make a transition to a new industry.

Functional Style:

This style is the least commonly used and is typically not well received by hiring managers or recruiters. Use of this style may cause people to think that you are hiding something or not listing your experiences in a way that reveals consistent work patterns. Functional style resumes often include information from various positions with the company names, titles, and dates referenced secondarily.

Depends on your work experience, if you have it, then a chronological resume is in order, but if you do not, then a functional resume should suffice.
