They are a non-renewable source of energy. That is, they will eventually run out.

Fossil fuels are a nonrenewable resource. They take millions of years to develop under extreme conditions.

  1. They add carbon to the atmosphere, causing global warming.
  2. They are very limited in quantity and become more expensive to find and refine
  3. They are biologically hazardous and can pollute ground and water

Fossil fuel burning produces up to 21.3 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide per year

The disadvantages of burning fossil fuels include

  • The fuels are irreplaceable,
  • They release carbon dioxide to the environment, which is one of the causes of global warming,
  • As they are used the cost of the remaining portions only rises higher.
  • Burning fossil fuels is a cause of acid rain
  • This has an impact on human health and on aquatic ecosystems.

Drawbacks of using fossil fuels are:

  • They pollute the air.
  • They release greenhouse gases.
  • They release Carbon Dioxide.
  • They are causing global warming.
  • They release nitrous oxides and sulphur oxides.
  • These cause acid rain.

The main disadvantage of non renewable energy is that it can't be renewed. There is only a finite amount of these energy sources (oil, gas and coal) and if we keep using them they will eventually run out. Another disadvantage is that they are all fossil fuels and the burning of them, to provide energy, contributes to global warming.

Some people would say global warming, but that's HIGHLY debatable. Really it's just that we are using them faster than they are produced in the earth, so they will eventually run out (although how long that will take is debatable too). No.

Only two? I have alot more than that but I will share only the two biggest ones!

1) Fossil fuels pollute the air, water, ground, etc.

2) Fossil fuels will eventually run out and we will no longer have any left to lose and will therefore be sitting ducks as far as the energy "chrisis" is concerned!

Fossil fuels are finite, that is non-renewable. Once used up they are gone. This is part of the alleged reason that fuel prices are rising; it is an example of how the oil companies are burning your last dollar before you burn the last gallon of gas.

Most cost more than traditional fuels and most need a different type of wiring system than what we already have in our cars.

We don't have an endless supply of it and it tends to pollute.

What two advantages of using fossil fuels?

Two of the advantages of using fossil fuel include reliability and existing engines. Reliability is that they will produce energy once certain circumstances are in place, and most modern machines are tooled for fossil fuels. It would be an expensive retooling to accommodate an alternative fuel.

Why are fossil fuels used at the moment and not renewables?

Fossil fuels are used for two reasons: on average, they are cheaper per kWh, and the infrastructure is already in place.
