Over the years many have criticised Marx for many different reasons. A major criticism is that Marx supposedly was an economic determinist. Another is that he was promethean when it came to technology. Sometimes critics assert that Marx's economics were basically Ricardo's and Marx just made it a little more radical. Marxists reject these criticisms and argue that critics who argue along these lines do not fully understand Marx, it at all, and approach Marx's work and very complex philosophy in a very simplistic way.
Critics of Karl Marx argue that his ideas are impractical and unrealistic, leading to social and economic instability. They also contend that his focus on class struggle oversimplifies complex societal dynamics and ignores the role of individual initiative and innovation. Additionally, critics raise concerns about the oppressive nature of Communist regimes that have followed Marx's theories in practice.
No one who has seriously studied Marx at considerable length for a long period of time could provide an answer as there aren't really any in terms of method and so forth. A few of ideas may possibly have turned out to not be 100% accurate (such as the rise in the organic composition of capital and how that can lead to crisis for example, though I don't agree with those who argue against it), but for the most part his ideas have held up over time brilliantly. His method of inquiry, dialectical materialsm, is arguably the best humanity has for understanding the world and how it works.
Communism is based upon the expectation that people are altruistic creatures who will be happy to work for the common good of the society in which they live, given the chance to do so. In practice it has turned out that selfishness is more common than public spirit, and when they can get away with it, large numbers of people choose to be parasitic rather than socially productive. So in the worker's paradise (as the USSR proudly described itself) lots of people did not bother to work. Those who did work often did so in a very sloppy manner. So the economy was not in good shape. The dictatorial nature of the communist government also tends to make people feel that they have no real stake in the society in which they live, since they have no voice in government. People are always being told by government Propaganda that they are living in the most advanced society in the world, and yet they obviously have worse living conditions than people in the supposedly inferior capitalist nations. People become very alienated.
