New laws limiting the sale of alcohol have come into effect in the Italian city of Rome. As of January 17th '2009 bars and restaurants along with supermarkets or other retailers are forbidden to sell takeaway booze after 21:00 local time. Bars and restaurants also are not allowed to sell alcohol at all from 02:00 local time. Discotheques are not affected by the new regulations. Legal drinking age is 16.
