Constipation, and if you're a teenager, having a lack of NSP this could lead to an increase in spots and make skin oilier, as the non-soluble polysaccharides are not passing through the body, henceforth not absorbing water or bulking up waste, making it soft.

Please note, as NSP is NON-SOLUBLE, you will NOT gain any weight by consumption. So, if you're planning on cutting fibre out of your diet, you won't lose any weight.

NSP, non-starch polysaccharides, come in two kinds. One (the solubles) lowers blood cholesterol, and the other (insoluble) provides dietary fiber. Both of these are good. Without enough of these, bad cholesterol could get too high, and/or one could get insufficient fiber. Which could cause any combination of these problems:

  • constipation
  • bowel disorders, e.g. diverticulitis, bowel cancer
  • Heart disease
  • high cholesterol
  • obesity
  • cancer
  • Diabetes
  • high blood pressure.
