The basic event in the 1st chapter is Scout telling the end of the story without getting in to, to much detail. So, you won't know what will happen at the end. Another event is Scout telling the beginning of what started everything.

the mad dog incident, mrs dubose dying, the court case, bob Ewell spitting in atticus's face, Robinson dying.

Scout and Jem found items in the knot hole of the Radley's tree.

  • Jem, Scout and Dill went to Boo Radley's.
  • Miss Maudie's house burnt down.
  • Atticus shot Tim Johnson's dog, revealing to Scout and Jem that he had the deadest shot in Maycomb County.
  • Cal takes Jem and Scout to church
  • Jem cut up all of Mrs. Dubose's flowers.
  • Mrs. Dubose died.
  • The trial of Tom Robinson took place.
  • Dill had a drink of Mr. Raymond's mysterious liquid, which everyone thought was beer (due to the fact that they thought the only reason he would marry a black woman was because he was drunk) but turned out to be Coca-Cola, representing how much racism there was at the time
  • Tom Robinson was declared guilty, but was really innocent. Bob Ewell spit in Atticus' face
  • Tom Robinson got shot 17 times trying to escape from jail.
  • Atticus gets a lot of food at his door step.
  • On the way home from the Halloween pagaent, Scout and Jem were attacked by Bob Ewell, but Boo Radley killed Bob and saved the kids
  • Scout walks Boo home, but never saw him again due to his shyness.

-When Dill arrives in Maycomb and introduces himself to Jem and Scout

-When Jem and Scout find items consisting of gum, a spelling bee medal, a gold broken watch and chain, and wood-carved miniatures of Jem and Scout within the hole of the tree on the corner of the Main Residential street.

-When Jem, Dill and Scout follow Atticus into town to find him guarding the jail and protecting Tom Robinson from the gang trying to kill him. This is a critical moment because the gang would have tried to harm Atticus as well if Scout hadn't have run over and talked to Mr. Cunningham. This action in itself gets the gang to leave.

-The fire that starts at Mrs. Maudie's house and almost spreads down the Main Residential Street.

-When Jem, Scout and Dill sneak into the Radley yard and get shot at. Scout and Dill make it out however Jem gets stuck and gets his pants stuck on the fence. Jem leaves them and runs home. When he comes back they're nicely stitched and hung on the fence this shows Boo Radley's kindness.

-When Mrs. Dubose calls Atticus a "negro lover" when Jem and Scout walk by her home, because of this crude remark Jem goes off to town and buys tree clippers to clip the tops off her flowers in anger.

-When Aunt Alexandra arrives in Maycomb to make Scout more of a lady.

-The trial of Tom Robinson.

-When Tom Robinson "trys to escape" the prison and is killed by being shot 17 times.

-When Jem and Scout are stalked by intoxicated Mr. Ewell and attempted to be killed. Luckily, Boo saves the day and kills Mr. Ewell before he could kill Jem and Scout.
