What are the facts about the desert?

It is hot, dry, sandy, waterless, and compared to other places on the earth, mostly lifeless, with some exceptions. Deserts grow, but rarely shrink. Sand carried in the wind grinds away at the rock and through erosion creates more sand. When a cloud comes in off the coast of a continent, the moisture in deposited as it passes over mountains, and little rainfall comes to the land on the other side, creating deserts. Over-farming and incorrect farming methods causes rapid desertification. Don't go to a desert without water and proper protection from the sun.
