The four categories of books found in the Old Testament are: the Torah (Pentateuch), Historical books, Wisdom literature, and Prophetic books.
I can think of two semi-obvious ways to make four divisions: The Historical books, the Poetical books, the Major prophets, and the Minor prophets OR The Pentateuch, the other Historical books, the Poetical books, and the Prophets. As may be obvious from those lists, it's rather more usual to make three divisions (history/poetry/prophecy) ... to make four, you've got to split one of the three.
The five groups are: # The Law Books or Books of Moses # Historical Books # Poetical Books # Major Prophets # Minor Prophets * Sometimes the last two groups are regarded as one division.

There are 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament. If you add them together, there are 66 books. If you can remember there are 39 books in the old testament, then it is easy to figure out the other numbers. To get the number of New Testament books from the Old Testament number, multiply the digits to get 27.
The first four books in the bible are genesis, exodus, Leviticus and Numbers.
