Layer 4 : Application Layer
Application layer defines TCP/IP application protocols and how host programs interface with transport layer services to use the network.
Protocols: HTTP,TELNET,FTP,SMTP,SNMP,TFTP,DNS etc.
Layer 3: Transport Layer
The purpose of Transport layer is to permit devices on the source and destination hosts to carry on a conversation. Transport layer defines the level of service and status of the connection used when transporting data.
Protocols: TCP and UDP
Layer 2: internet Layer
Internet layer pack data into data packets known as IP datagrams, which contain source and destination address (logical address or IP address) information that is used to forward the datagrams between hosts and across networks. The Internet layer is also responsible for routing of IP datagrams.
Protocols: IP,ICMP,ARP,RARP,IGMP etc.
Layer 1: Network Access Layer
Network Access layer defines details of how data is physically sent through the network, including how bits are electrically or optically signaled by hardware devices that interface directly with a network medium, such as coaxial cable, optical fiber, or twisted pair copper wire.
Protocols: Ethernet,Token Ring, FDDI, X.25, Frame Relay etc.
Network Interface layer, Transport layer, Application layer and Internet layer are the four TCP/IP layers. This model is often known as DoD model.

TCP/IP because the osi model has seven layer but in tcp/ip only four layers and most important is that the tcp/ip model is reduce the function of osi model.
FTP uses TCP, which uses IP
There are exactly four layers Application layer Trasport layer Internet layer similar to n/ w layer in OSI model N/w interface like data link layer. TCP/IP model doesnt have physical layer , presentation layer and session layers.

The Network Interface layer
The OSI model encompasses all of the TCP/IP sub-protocols plus several other protocols that are not part of TCP/IP. These would include IPX/SPX, NetBEUI, Appletalk, and other proprietary protocols that are not part of the TCP/IP model.

Both TCP and IP are subprotocols in the OSI model. IP is used for routing purposes, whereas TCP is used for transport control. If you are asking primarily about internetworking then it would be the IP protocol.
