In a desktop, you normally have a tower containing the motherboard, hard drive, CD/DVD drives, and various ports and input connections. The peripherals are the display (monitor, CRT or LCD), the keyboard, the mouse, speakers, a printer, and any external drives.

Basically, anything that sends data into a computer.
