To take away carbon dioxide from blood and refill it with fresh oxygen.

The main function of your lungs is to provide oxygen to other parts of your body by loading it into red blood cells and sending them to that part of the body.

The function of the lungs is transport oxygen into the bloodstream and to take carbon dioxide out of the bloodstream.
