Deism does not believe in a GOD specifically, merely a higher power. Puritanism focuses on the Christian version of a higher power.

I'm fairly certain that Deism is the latin. Dei, meaning God (as in deity), and "-ism" pertaining to a system of beliefs.

In all honesty and alot of diests agree with this. Deism is reserved for the intelectuals. Not that we don't let peopel be diests if they are not smart enough. Its just that it takes a certain type of intelect to want to become a deist or believe in deism. Our beleif is based on reason an nature alone (something the organised religions lack)
