Massachusetts is set between the Berkshires, a mountain range with many lakes, to the west, and the coastal region, including Cape Cod and the islands of Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, to the east.

A great deal of the southeast part of the state is marshland, especially in the Upper Cape (near the Cape Cod Canal, which divides the Cape from the rest of the state). Cape Cod itself is a wide cape riddled with inlets that curves eastward to form an elbow, then heads sharply north (forming the Lower Cape) and ends in a spindly slip of land known as Provincetown. Much of this area is conservation land. The seashore north of Boston is heavily settled, but still wild and rocky in some areas.

Massachusetts has Lake Ontario on its left and the Appalachian Mountains that run through the colony. The Charles River and the Connecticut River are the only rivers that run through Massachusetts. It also has the Pioneer Valley:)
