What jobs that are particularly stressful?

I would imagine a job where you have great responsibility such as an aircraft traffic controller, could be considered very stressfull (but we need an aircraft traffic controller to confirm that...). However, there are many jobs that could be classified as stressfull due to the expectation of performance, especially where sales and/or purchases are involved. Stock and currency traders would definitely fall into this category, but most sales jobs where performance is measured by achievement of a quota could be counted here. Ultimately, if you do not achieve your quota, you can lose your job - a definite cause of stress I would imagine. Less common jobs such as astronauts (especially the pilot of a shuttle) or a heart or brain surgeon could also count as a stressfull vocation. What is certain, is if you ask this question to 10 people, you will get 10 different answers, each trying to justify why his/her job is most stressfull. Some jobs are stressfull ALL the time and the stress is like a sword over your head (at home, work and even holiday), while others only have stressfull moments. IMO, the performance based sales job is probably the winner in the category of of stress (and no, I am not in this category - thank goodness for that!).

Computer programmer.

Air Traffic Controller, Dispatcher, Miner, Police officer, Any military sent oversea's, front line could obviously be way more stressful than someone in the green zone, but still stressful non-the-less... Computer programmer is stressful but no one's life is in your hand or anything that results in death or dying... so it's hardly on the level of those.

Jobs with odd working hours are stressful. Our body has its own body clock and whenever it is disrupted, it may lead to physical, psychological and emotional conditions like stress, obesity and digestive disorders.
