I am not aware of the specific names of the Americans issued death threats on this issue, but they were targeted for having made "offensive" comments about Islam, Muslims, or Mohammed. Islamists do not respect the freedom of speech when that speech is strongly critical of Islam, Muslims, or Mohammed. Not only do they believe that Muslims have to respect Mohammed, but Non-Muslims must also respect him.
It is important to note that most Muslims are not Islamists and the overwhelming majority of Muslims would not threaten the lives of other human beings regardless of their beliefs or words.
