Scientifically merfolk aren't real. This is not a trait common to all merfolk. The incidences of merfolk luring sailors to their death is equivalent to those humans who host cock-fights and dog-fights. It doesn't represent the attitudes of the entire race but because it is of the few incidences in which merfolk and humans interact it has become their most well-known trait.

green, h20 clour (copper) blue pink purple rainbow red every imaginable clour Merfolk is an umbrella term for many water based species. There are two ancestral classes (the River Hags and the Orlaga Hag). Those of the River variety are primarily green, those of the Oriaga variety are brown. Of the three marine species * Coastal Merfolk are primarily green but may have lighter green marbling in their 'legs' * Surf Merfolk are again primarily green but may have patches or mottling of pale brown or red in their lower 'legs' * Pelagice Merfolk are more flesh-toned in their upper bodies (that's nordic flesh tone, sorry) while their 'legs' have a definite dark blue to black colouration.
any colour what so ever The upper half of merfolk are Nordic white and often algae green. The green is probably real algae growing on them. The young maids are the cleaners ones. Their tails reflect their species. The Tidal merfolk, the ones that frolic in the waves, are pale green marbled with even pales streaks. The marine merfolk are of a darker green with splotches of red and brown near the knees, shins and tail. The true pelagic merfolk are black mottled with purple and marbled with blue.
