Most Iraqi (Mesopotamian) meals begin with appetizers and salads called Mezze. Some of the dishes are: Shawarma (grilled sandwich wrap of meat), Bamia (tomato, lamb and Okra stew), Kibbeh (minced meat ground with bulghur or rice and spices), Falafel (fried chickpea patties served with amba and salad in pita), Quzi (lamb with rice, almonds, raisins and spices), Masgouf (grilled fish with pepper and tamarind), Maqluba (a rice, lamb, tomato and aubergine dish). Also, there are several stuffed vegetable dishes, most popular are Dolma and Mahshi.

RICE RICE RICE is the main dish. All kinds of rice. Chicken, lamb, and cow are also popular. Dolma, a traditional Iraqi food is VERY common. It combines rice and ground beef stuffed into cooked onions, grape leaves, squash, tomato, etc. Salad and Iraqi breads are served almost always with these meals.
