The nerve impulse travels from the sensory neurone, across a synapse (the gap between the end of one neurone and the dendrites (fingers) of the next) and reaches the next neurone. The signal reaches the coordinator (either the brain or spinal cord) and is then sent to a certain part of the body via a motor neurone, which eventually reaches the muscle and causes a movement. The nervous system is effected by stimulants and depressants, such as alcohol and drugs, which change the speed of reaction times.
