Stimulants — Stimulants work by speeding up your central nervous system functions. Your brain may seem to be going at a million miles per minute after taking a substance like cocaine. They give you an inflated sense of confidence. The physical effects of addiction to stimulants include increased heart rate, high blood pressure, lack of appetite, and insomnia.

Depressants — Depressants are often prescribed to people dealing with mental health issues like depression. Instead of stimulating your central nervous system, depressants cause it to slow down. You may feel more relaxed and lose some of your inhibitions. The effects of drug abuse tied to stimulants can include physical issues like an inability to control your motor functions and slowed breathing and heart rate. When that happens, you could end up unconscious and die without prompt medical treatment.

Hallucinogens — Hallucinogens cause you to see and hear things that aren’t real and distort how you view the world. The effects of drug abuse of hallucinogens can include clenching your jaw and gastric issues.

Depending on the severity of the abuse, it could range from minimal to completely life shattering.

I was on Oxycontin for 2 years, taking the drug every 2.5 - 3 hours. I lost my ability to function at work, school, etc. I would go to the bathroom for hours at a time to get high, and come back and do nothing. They didn't fire me for the longest time because for years I was the best employee they had, and they "needed" me. Finally I ended up getting sacked.

Drug tolerance means the drug stops feeling good after a while, and you need to take it just to feel normal. Eventually, even feeling normal isn't an option: you always feel terrible. You are either in withdrawal, or you are having negative side effects from the drug.

Mode of administration matters too. Snorting drugs can cause severe damage to the sinuses, injecting can cause abscesses, bacterial infections, collapsed veins, and many many many other complciations.

I walked away from my opiate abuse with epilepsy, possibly occasional psychotic episodes that I still get, a lifelong addiction, $80,000 in debt (yes, I spent that much on the drug), herpes, and the loss of most of my family and friends. Some people don't even walk away with their lives.

Emotional? Well, when I quit oxy, I felt like my best friend had just died, like I had lost everything, like the world was ending -- constantly crying, etc. Quitting drugs is the most emotionally painful thing you can ever go through in your life. Not a day goes by that I don't think about doing oxy, crave it, and have to fight myself so I don't go get it.

As much as I think drug abuse is terrible, I think legalization of ALL drugs is a very important step towards fighting it. Drugs ruined my life, and yes I still think they should be completely legal.

depends on the drug used, sniffing some blow will make your nose numb, high level of energy fell awesome, then you crash but you don't really crash too hard, smoking weed just kind of mellows you out and it's hard to explain, a painkiller will make you feel good inside and put you on the nod, my fav is 10 diladid 2mgs cause you get a good amount of powder and you get high as truck but for a first timer you'd only need 1 or 2 diladuid 2mgs, or half a g of coke, or 4 gs of weed and that will last you a little bit 1 gram joint your first time is enough some don't get high there first time as for the reason im saying to get extra hope this helped ya out

the current theroy is that your emotional development ends or stalls at the age you become addicted. For example I know an addict that started abusing drugs at around the age of 14, he is now in his 30's. While he is sober he is still at the level of a 14 y.o. emotionally because the steps and stages he should have gone through to mature were not fully realized due to the numbing of the addictive substances he was abusing. He now needs to essentially process 14-15 years of emotional growth to "catch up" to those the same age as him... hope this makes sense
