Answer 2

To create a utopia requires a perfect set of rules and laws. So if a utopia is possible these laws would be both understandable and fair and based on pure science of life.

After all the real meaning of morality is: "That which promotes life health and happiness".

Anything opposed to that can not live in utopia.

The simplest answer is that, in a truly Utopian society, there are no disadvantages. However, here at Answers.com, you should know better than to expect simple answers; no such "truly Utopian society" has ever existed, nor is one ever likely to.

There are several competing Utopian models, each of which comes with their own set of disadvantages. Here are just a few:

  1. Theocracy: In this type of society, every aspect of life is governed by organized religion. Examples of a theocracy would be medieval Europe or much of the modern day Middle East (such as Iran or Saudi Arabia). The disadvantage in this case is that organized religion tends to be either overly zealous, or stagnant and corrupt; both of these are rather large disadvantages.
  2. Plato's Republic: The famous Greek philosopher Plato suggested, as an alternative to the close-minded regimes of his day, a Republic ruled entirely by philosophers. (If you're feeling pedantic, you might point out that Plato was actually merely recording the views of his mentor Socrates, or that many scholars believe he only meant the model as a metaphor for the soul. Don't be like that.) While all of the philosophers I know, and I know quite a few, are eminently capable of ruling cities, there are dangers inherent in establishing a permanent ruling class of any kind - concentration of power in the hands of the few is a recipe for despotism, and any elite group will quickly lose touch with the common people.
  3. Marxism. I'm not going to go into this in any detail, as it's a touchy subject, but suffice to say that it has its disadvantages as well, including a fatal disregard for human nature and an inherent susceptibility to dictatorial takeovers. After all, if people don't want to go along with the Utopian ideals, someone has to make them, and making that possible requires unhealthy concentrations of power. But I've said too much already. ;)

Ultimately, any society will be imperfect and will have disadvantages, and societies which claim - benignly or maliciously - to be Utopian are even more susceptible to this, as they refuse to acknowledge the dangers of natural human imperfection.

Utopia means "perfect place" and "no place", because no place is perfect. If you lived in a Utopia, you would feel no sorrow, pain, or hardship. We grow from our troubles, and the experience makes us stronger. People living a Utopia have not realized the full sphere of human emotions, making them lack a large part of their lives.
