There are six players on the ice from each team, but there are only four positions.

Center: Attempts possession of the puck from the face off. The center is an offensive player.

Offense (wings): These two players help score goals on the opposing team.

Defensemen: These two players patrol the left and right sides of the ice so that the opposing team's offense will not score.

Goalie: The last line of defense. If the goalie does not stop the puck, there is no one else to prevent a goal from being scored.
