Pros: No chlorine = no chlorine smell, no fading of bathing suits, no green hair (for blondes), no raw eyes (from opening underwater), skin doesn't feel gross after swimming (as with traditional chlorine system). Cons: Not a hugely used system so people at the pool place will tell you conflicting things. Find the expert in the shop and only talk to that person for any questions. The Ecosmart manual is not user friendly. Although it is only several pages long, you will have to dig to get the information that you want for maintenance. Read entire manual several times before doing anything! I am a new pool owner and found the system process easy to use and maintain. Pros: We've been using one for 5 years. Great system. You need to use much more "Hardness" (Calcium Chloride) than you normally would with a Chlorine pool. I add 150 lbs each spring at opening on a 10,000 gallon pool. If you don't, your copper plates will deteriate much faster and you'll be running your ecosmart in the Ionize position more frequently.
