Clark Kent wore the glasses to keep people from being able to easily recognize him as Superman- but the producers for this very old show must not have thought about ordinary people seeing him with them off if they did not give any strange reaction to seeing him without them. That techincally would knock out the whole purpose in him even needing them if people did not figure out he was Superman when he did not have them on as Clark Kent.
Superman has never had the ability to do that- Lois Lane was just thinking that in the 1978 film because she was still learning about him as she felt like he was some sort of god being able to do things no ordinary human being could. However, on the TV show "Smallville"- Echo (Episode 4 of Season 9) Jor-El gave Clark Kent (the Blur) the ability to hear other people's thoughts only temporarily. So that is one time Superman actually could read people's minds.
Superman does not get paid for saving people, Metropolis & the world.
