Baptism is basically the sacrament of initiation or entering into the catholic church, the first sacrament any catholic person will receive when joining the religion. It is the cleansing and accepting of a person and 'whipes away their past sins' and makes them a chld of God. A baptism can be performed on a person of any age (traditionally an infant or baby), gender, nationality or past religion and recognizes the persons new comitment to the religion.
There are in all seven sacraments: * Baptism * Eucharist * Reconciliation * Confirmation * Marriage * Holy Orders * Anointing of the Sick out of which Baptism is a sacrament. There are no seven sacraments of Baptism.
