Both effects are the same depending on the severity of the Asthma. Asthma in the bad sense can cause weakening of the lungs and severe breathing difficulties such as needing home oxygen treatment all the time etc.

Asthma is a long-term illness - but is very controllable with drugs and awareness. Many children have it but "grow out of it" in later life. On a short-term basis, someone with asthma will experience shortness of breath especially when exercising. Other people will need to take a "preventative" medication - usually an oral inhaler twice a day which stops the wheeze developing.
