What are the similarities between Christian and cognitive therapies?

Cognitive therapy focuses on changing maladaptive or erroneous thoughts, such as "I'm fat" at 93 pounds, into more accurate or helpful thoughts, such as "I can fulfill this daunting goal."

Christian therapy also focuses on changing thoughts, those which are assumed to be erroneous, such as "it is OK to be a homosexual human being," and replace them with thoughts not proven to be more helpful to the individual, such as "there is a Jesus up there who will ordain you to burning hell-fire, should you choose to act as gay as god made you."
