A single clonk type noise is a good sign. If you have a rapid clicking with dimming of the lights you have a bad battery. Make sure you have proper voltage/cranking amps before you make a decision.

If the starter motor is not turning the engine over correctly, this might be because the vehicle battery is flat. If the battery is not charged, this may be because the alternator is not charging correctly. The recommendation here is to pop along to a local garage or autelectrician asking them to check the charge of the battery, the alternator output, and the starter motor operation if necessary.

Start motors may not start due to one or 2 common reasons, the battery or a faulty motor itself. Once the battery has been checked to carry the normal charge and there is a fuel source, if the motor does not crank or turn over when started, then it is likely a mechanical fault.

Where is the starter on a 1994 Dodge Intrepid ES 3.5L?

Although a car starter is a great concept, I definitely would not install it in a 1999 Intrepid. I have a 99 Intrepid, and have heard that that year was the worst for the Intrepid. I have had nothing but problems with my car, and have spoken to others with the same model and year as mine. A car starter can totally screw up the mechanics of a car, especially one with such a bad rep. Another thing is that if you need a starter, I would probably get a professional to do it. They might offer you some kind of a warranty.

First, turn on the headlights. Now, have someone watch them as you try to start the car; do they get dim? If so, the battery is in need of a charge; If not, you need to check your connections at the starter. You may have a bad starter, starter solenoid, or connection.
