The decathlon's ten events are spread out over two days.
First day events: 100-meter dash, running long jump, shot put, high jump, and 400-meter run.
Second day events: 110-meter hurdles, discus throw, pole vault, javelin throw, and 1,500-meter run for the second day.
To determine an overall winner, the International Association of Athletics Federations sets a table to convert performance in each event to a score, and the athlete with the highest sum of all ten scores is the winner. The table is updated periodically to keep up with new world records in each event, which can have interesting effects on previous scores—a 1985 revision of the table bumped up British decathlete Daley Thompson's score from the previous year, causing him to break the world record retrospectively.
The decathlon is a combined event in athletics consisting of ten track and field events. The word "decathlon" was formed, in analogy to the word "pentathlon", from Greek δέκα (déka, meaning "ten") and ἄθλος (áthlos, or ἄθλον, áthlon, meaning "contest" or “prize”). Events are held over two consecutive days and the winners are determined by the combined performance in all. Performance is judged on a points system in each event, not by the position achieved. The decathlon is contested mainly by male athletes, while female athletes typically compete in the heptathlon.
Traditionally, the title of "World's Greatest Athlete" has been given to the person who wins the decathlon, thus the world's greatest athlete of all times is the record-man of decathlon (Kevin Mayer as of September 2018). This began when King Gustav V of Sweden told Jim Thorpe, "You, sir, are the world's greatest athlete" after Thorpe won the decathlon at the Stockholm Olympics in 1912.
The event is similar to the pentathlon held at the ancient Greek Olympics, and also similar to a competition called an "all-around", which was contested at the United States amateur championships in 1884. Another all-around was held at the 1904 Summer Olympics. The modern decathlon first appeared at the 1912 Games.
The current official decathlon world record holder is French Kevin Mayer, who scored a total of 9,126 points at the 2018 Décastar in France.

The Decathlon is the blue ribbon track and field event.
The point calculator system for the 10 events is complicated.
The two day event covers two successive days and requires tremendous versatility : speed (100 metres / 110 hurdles) , strength (shot put, discus, pole vault, javelin), flexibility (H Jump and Long Jump) and stamina (400 m and 1500m) Of all the events competitors find the last one, the 1500 metres, very exhausting.

The decathlon is a 10-event spectacle featuring the pole vault, high jump, long jump, javelin, shot put, discus, 110-meter hurdles, 100-meter dash, 400-meter run, and — wait for it — a 1500-meter run. Wrestling was once part of the show.

The Decathlon is comprised of Ten (10) events. The Pentathlon is comprised of Five (5) events. There are a combined fifteen (15) events. However, the pentathlon's five events are also encompassed within the decathlon as well. Therefore, technically there are only Ten (10) unique events between the two competitions.
The heptathlon and the decathlon are variations of the same event, combined-events. In outdoor track and field, women do the heptathlon, consisting of seven events, and men do the decathlon, consisting of ten events. Both of the events have events in them that are power and speed related with one that is more endurance related.
A "decathlon" consists of ten distinct athletic events. Originating in the athletic competitions held in ancient Greece (including the "Olympics"), modern-day decathlon competitions vary in the particular events required of the competitors; for instance, the ten events will differ in men's and women's competitions.
