In my opinion, ourselves. We have lost the understanding and the knowledge of our history. Washington stated that to have a democracy that the citizens needed to be educated about what democracy means. Schools are no longer teaching history and citizenship. We have allowed legends to replace the truth of history, to set ourselves apart into fractions and not see ourselves as a whole nation of people working for the common good of all. Washington warned against this in his farewell letter and now we have allowed foreign powers to influence our election results. We need to start to work together to build a democracy that we can be proud of and to make sure ALL are important and benefit from it.
