To my understanding of the term, Religious Conservatism is a movement that holds that people should interpret the holy book or books of the religion literally. It also adheres to the traditions and teachings of the early founders of the religion. It does not accept the "progressive" or "liberal" views of those who claim to be followers of the religion but who try to introduce teachings that contradict or fly in the face of those written in the holy books and those taught by the founders of the religion.
