For the 3.9 head bolts (streach bolts) only use new bolts and follow this sequence: Tighten to 20nm in correct sequence. Then tighten each bolt 90 deg turn in correct sequence. Wait 15 minutes. Then tighten each bolt a further 90 deg turn in correct sequence. Done.
Rover 20T2N 2.0Ltr Diesel engine Cam cover torques are listed as 12 Nm. No tightening sequence is listed .
The torque settings are 40 to 45lb/ft for the outer row, 65 to 70 for the centre to inner row. Haynes (Methuen & Coomber 1999) doesn't specify any particular order for refitting the head bolts; follow the standard automotive practice of tightening the ones furthest apart and moving inwards.
The cylinder head torque settings for a Land Rover 300 DTI starts at 40Nm for all bolts. Then for M10 x 117 mm long 60 degrees, M12 x 100 mm long 60 degrees.
