Butter, cornstarch, sugar and water are the traditional ingredients in Albania's cornstarch halva dessert.
Specifically, the word "halva" is a loan word in the Albanian language. It comes from the Arabic word that means "sweet." The dish so designated is indeed a popular sweet treat to all ages.
Sugar is stirred into water and brought to a boil. The mixture will continue to be cooked over high heat until a long thread may be spun with the thoroughly combined and heated ingredients.
Butter is melted separately. It will be used to sauté the cornstarch until the mixture turns yellow. At that point, sugar is mixed in carefully. The syrup from the other container then is stirred in with a wooden spoon until the entire mixture thickens.
The dessert is served in individual serving size dessert cups. It is a favorite dish that presents itself well hot or cold.

It has long been associated with Turkey in particular and with the eastern Mediterranean region in general. ------------------------------
My Turkish friends in high school cut it into small pieces like candy and ate it with a cup of tea as a snack.

suji itself is very nutricious.if u r making ur halwa and adding a little milk that's nutritional too.almonds,cashewnuts,aniseed(saunf),kishmish.they all have nutritions in them important for nurishing the body.
There are probably better choices, nutritionally--for the small amount of B vitamins contributed by the sesame seeds, there sure is an awful lot of fat, plus the sugar, in the form of honey, doesn't do a body much good. But people aren't eating halvah for nutritional purposes--they eat it because it's delicious!

Tahini and sesame paste are a paste of ground sesame seeds that can be eaten uncooked, or, alternatively, used in cooking. It is a key ingredient in dishes such as hummus, various Asian dishes, halva, etc. It can also be eaten as a side dish or as a garnish, usually including lemon juice, salt and garlic, sugar. The ingredients determine if it needs to be refrigerated: hummus = yes; halva = no; sauces with tahini = yes. The raw tahini, however, does not need to be refrigerated.
