The main type of rock found in the crusts are silicates. Silicate minerals are the most abundant and most important since they compose over ninty percent of the minerals in the crust. Felsic rocks typically have higher levels of silicates than mafic rocks. Silicates are composed of oxygen and silicon. The most common silicate minerals are quartz, potassium feldspar, plagioclase feldspar, muscovite, amphibole, pyroxene, garnet, olivine, and biotite.
