If you are a Democrat you might call it the party of the working man, dedicated to social responsibility and welfare, anti-big business, anti-interventionist, pro-UN and socially responsible. If you are a Republican you might call it the party of tax and spend, pro-socialist, anti-free market, anti-military and in favor of big government. If fairly judged, both political parties are much alike, they want power and control and are willing to say and do whatever it takes to obtain it.

Democrats are about the people, mainly. Typically more public services, Republicans tend to focus on business, rich people, and money. Democrats want more health care for people, etc. Democrats like to focus on the poor and middle class slightly more that the upper class people, mainly because they are better off them us, and don't need as much help. On the subject of gay people, most democrats don't want to touch the subject, but they're over all okay with it. Some don't support it, but they believe gay people should be treated equally.

A:Mainly, here are the focuses of the groups:
  • Democrat: People & Healthcare, Middle-Class/Lower-Class people focus
  • Republican: Business, Money, Resources (Usually involving war), Higher-Class people focus
A:Democrats think war is bad

They think socialism works

They tend to think the rich aren't a productive part of society

They tend to focus on making people dependent on the government through handouts

They tend to be anti-constitution

Tend to be enviromentalists

Tend to have a weak foreign policy

Tend to be anti-Christian

Tend to be pro-abortion

They think things are unfair (financially and socially) and they have the solution

A:In all cases of democratic ideals being put in practice in history, they haven't worked, and they have taken power from the individual. They think that taking money from some and giving it to others will solve all their problems which is not the case. Just look at Greece, Spain, the Soviet Union, etc. Those were all socialistic countries that shared ideals with the democrats, and they all failed.

Democrats believe in a larger government, and a stricter nation. They believe in raising taxes to try to support the whole country. While Republicans on the other hand believe in lowering taxes and having a more people run nation letting the businesses and corporations handle the economy by using their services to boost it. Democrats also believe in the impossible theory of "world peace", they believe that talking to enemies and restricting firearms will all of the sudden somehow bring peace to the world.

Since US political parties are prone to a diversity of views and being "large tents", most views of Democrats lie along a spectrum, but some general political platforms of Democrats have tended to be:

Welfare

1) Welfare:
The Democratic Party generally supports the increased proliferation of welfare, such as Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid.

2) Socialized Medicine:
There is some disagreement within the Democratic Party over whether to support the Affordable Care Act or to have a Single-Payer System, but Democrats agree that healthcare should be a right for all Americans.

3) Subsidized Education:
A large number of Democrats believe that the government should assist communities by using tax dollars to pay for public education, from kindergarten to public universities. Democrats similarly oppose a private voucher system which would take tax moneys from public schools and route them to private schools preferred by the parents.

Elections

4) Campaign Finance Reform:
Democrats are generally pushing to overturn Citizens United and argue that businesses and exorbitantly wealthy individuals cannot use their wealth to drown out the voices of the general population.

5) Greater Enfranchisement:
Democrats generally oppose the initiatives led by Republicans to require Voter ID in various jurisdictions since these ID requirements usually have disparate impacts on minority, urban communities where driver's licenses (the most common form of ID) are often not sought for common use. By contrast, Democrats seek to bring more people to the ballot box and support initiatives to encourage less likely voters to vote.

Industry and Employment

6) Labor Unions: The Democratic Party generally supports workers and labor unions against larger corporations and CEOs, pushing for increased wages, increased union protections, and better workplace conditions for workers.

7) Business Regulation: Democrats typically promote and increase government regulation of businesses in order to compel businesses to behave in ways that are (1) better for the workers, (2) safer for the consumers, (3) better for the environment, and (4) to prevent non-competitive activities in the market.

8) Government Investment in the Economy:
Democrats generally hold that the government has a duty to interfere in the economy, promoting certain business initiatives, bailing out companies that employ millions of workers (too big to fail), and making active investments in businesses whose goals align with the government.

9) Infrastructure and Public Projects:Democrats believe in government investment in revitalizing infrastructure and putting Americans to work on domestic projects. This leads to a massive increase in the size of government as many more employees work for the government on a temporary basis to perform these projects.

Foreign Policy

10) Tariffs and Protectionism:
Democrats tend to prioritize jobs in the US over free trade and have leveled a number of tariffs, non-tariff barriers, and other protections to prevent the loss of American jobs. However, there is a significant minority of Democrats who are internationalist and have approved free trade agreements. Increasingly, there are also Republicans like Donald Trump who have taken up this plank.

11) Diplomacy Over War:
Democrats tend to be less hawkish on foreign policy than Republicans, preferring to negotiate and deal with their adversaries as oppose to using military strikes or the threat of them to compel behavior from adversaries. Republicans pejoratively consider this to be appeasement, while Democrats generally consider this to be a promotion of freedom and saving lives.

12) Laws of War:
Democrats generally support adhering to the rules of war, such as minimizing, if not eliminating torture, foreign extradition, and attacks with large collateral damage. Republicans tend to be less sympathetic to the (usually) Non-American victims of a more callous but more responsive military policy.

13) Reducing the Defense Industry:
Democrats are generally opposed to a large military and propose budget cuts to the military. They typically cite the large disparity between the size of the US Military and those of other nations, combined with US Welfare requirements. It also goes along with the general aversion to war.

Environment and Energy

14) Environmentalism:
Democrats generally believe in preserving the environment. However, there is a significant subset of Democrats, especially in the rust belt, who have districts that are strongly supported by coal excavation and this minority of Democrats tend to oppose environmental advocacy.

15) Renewable Energy:
Democrats usually support initiatives to promote renewable energy, such as solar and wind power, in order to lessen dependence on foreign petroleum. Republicans typically promote domestic fracking and petroleum drilling in order to achieve the same ends, but Democrats oppose these acts because of their danger to the environment and, in the case of fracking, the water supply.

16) Endangered Animals:
Democrats support the protection of endangered animals and other creatures whose populations are diminishing due to habitat destruction.

Protected Class Issues

17) Anti-Racism:
Democrats support the push for increased monitoring of the police, especially as concerns institutional racism in the US Justice System and focus on securing a true equality between Blacks and Whites in the United States, as opposed to facial equality.

18) Women's Issues:
The Democrats support the liberal side on women's issues, promoting reasonable access to abortion and contraception, opposing unfair salaries for women, and supporting increased civic engagement from women. In some Southern States, where women's issues are viewed much more conservatively, a number of Democrats take the opposite side in order to remain electable.

19) LGBT Rights:
Democrats support promoting the rights of the LGBT community, such as supporting gay marriage, making transgender surgeries more available and less stigmatized, and having a less hetero-normative view of sexuality prevalent in society.

20) Immigration, Refugees, and Asylum:
Democrats generally have an embracing attitude of illegal immigration, legal immigration, refugees seeking a new country, and asylum seekers. Democrats have tried to pass the Dream Act to effectively give the benefits of legal residency to some illegal immigrants. While Democrats are generally supportive of the vetting process for immigration, they oppose the closing or strict monitoring of the border advocated by more belligerent and nativist Republican voices.

Medicine

21) Stem Cells: The Democrats support medical research into embryonic stem cells in order to pursue medicinal cures that it may hold. In some Southern States, where embryonic stem cell research is viewed much more conservatively, a number of Democrats take the opposite side in order to remain electable.
