Raton)

of the Sun Belt Conference;

Florida Gulf Coast University (Ft. Myers) of the Atlantic Sun Conference;

Florida International University (Miami) of the Sun Belt COnference;

and

University of Miami (Miami) of the Atlantic Coast Conference, which should not be

confused with Miami University in Ohio (named for the Miami tribe of

Native Americans, who populated southeastern

Ohio).

Ironically, the University of South Florida is in Tampa, which is not exactly in south Florida-- unless one splits the state into two equal parts, thus making the panhandle region across to Jacksonville into "north Florida."
