Since substances in mixtures are only physically mixed together (as opposed to chemically combined), elaborate chemicals and measures are unnecessary. Methods in separating substances in a mixture rely on differences in the physical properties between the substances. There is distillation (which takes advantage of different boiling/condensation points), centrifuge (which takes advantage of different densities), filtration (differences in particle size) and electrophoresis (differences in size and charge).

What are the different substances in a mixture?

In chemistry, a mixture is a material system of two or more different substances which are mixed but are not combined chemically. A mixture is the physical combination of two or more substances on which the identities are retained and are mixed in the form of solutions, suspensions, and colloids.

If you made a mixture of iron fillings and salt how could you separate that mixture into its 2 original substances?

Place the mixture in water. You recover the iron once the salt dissolves. Then allow the water salt mixture to dry and allow salt crystals to reform.

What are ways to separate a mixture?

If you want to separate a mixture, you can: 1) evaporate away a substance and you will most likely have a residue left over 2) you can use a filter 3) check for magnetic particles and take them out I hope this answers your question!

What are compounds and mixture?

Elements: Pure substance. Made up of only itself (Ex: Oxygen).Compound: A substance made up of two or more elements that are chemically combined (Ex. Water- dihydrogenmonoxide= H2O).Mixture: Combination of substances (substances can be elements, compounds, or both). These substances are NOTchemically combined, which means that mixtures are differentfrom compounds.

Which would you use to separate a substance from a mixture its chemical or physical properties?

A mixture is a combination of two or more subtances.Subtances in a mixture can be separated. This means that they are chemically combined.I would prefer physical change cause mixtures are made by physically combining two or more subtances. The solids, liquids,or gases in a mixture are not chemically combined. They can be easily seperated.
