During World War II, the most significant turning-points in the European Theater came during the years 1942 and 1943. On land, the Battle of Stalingrad (August 1942 to February 1943) proved that Germany had met its military match in the forces of the Soviet Union. At sea, the Battle of the Atlantic (climaxing in mid-1943) was won by the Western Allies, thereby securing supply-lines and ensuring the successful opening of a Second Front in the near future.

During World War II, the major turning points for the Allies against the Axis Powers occurred in 1942 and 1943. In 1942, the titanic battle at Stalingrad (lasting from August of 1942 to February of 1943) inside the Soviet Union proved to be one major turning-point -- on land. At sea, the Allied victory over the German submarine campaign in mid-1943 was yet another major turning-point.

There were 3 decisive events that changed the course of the war in the allies favor: the Battle of Stalingrad and the destruction of the German 6th Army in Feb 1943; the destruction of the German U-Boat threat during the Battle of the Atlantic in 1943; and the Battle of Midway in the Pacific, that culminated in the sinking of all 4 Japanese carriers and hundreds of their best pilots. That defeat was the last major offensive naval operation against the allies in the Pacific.
