Spam can come from many different sources. There are third party's that can sometimes acquire your email address from legitimate websites. You can get them from entering your email address into offers for "free" things. These are the most common two ways you receive spam. You can also get spam because people learn your email from a program that allows them to pull other peoples contact lists. The best way to prevent spam is to only give your email address to websites where their Terms of Service state they do not sell your email addresses to other websites.

No absolutely not can email be used to fax. Email is sending information electronically and faxing is sending electronic documents from an actual piece of paper that is being scanned and then becomes printed to the individual you are sending it to. With email you don't need an actual document to copy nor could you do that so they are two different methods to send information. Fax can be very important sometimes when a company needs actual paperwork of documents which you can not get using email. Email is not able to be used a a psuedo fax machine. If you are in need of a fax machine you should utilize a standard fascmile machine.

I think you mean that the Microsoft Outlook is not sending email. In this case, you can try exporting your emails from Outlook and importing to Gmail. If you don't want to do that, then you can try to disable the Outlook email account from Options of your Gmail account. Uncheck the corresponding box and save the settings. After that, close the Outlook and launch the browser to create a new Gmail account. You can also try running Outlook in Safe Mode. To do this, close Outlook completely and press F8 key when your system is loading up. Then you can try sending a test email or two.
