Field Marshal Rommel was never captured by the allies.
In 1944 Rommel was implicated in the plot to kill Adolph Hitler undertaken by Claus von Staufenberg. (Operation Valkyrie) While he was not actually involved in the plot, it was clear that he had been aware that it was taking place. He was given the choice to commit suicide or be executed. Rommel chose suicide; which he did by taking poison.
