The Temptations were one of the biggest-selling male R&B acts of the 1960s and into the 1970s. Consequently, their influence was so widespread it would be hard to name a limited number of groups influenced by the Temptations. The Temptations also scored consistently at or near the top of the pop charts too -- so it wasn't just other R&B acts who were influenced by them. One way to answer the question would be to say that as one of the earliest and best practitioners of soul with psychedelic influences ("Cloud Nine", "Psychedelic Shack") and with funk as an important flavor ("Papa was a Rollin' Stone", "Masterpiece")in their late 60's and early 70's releases, one could say that most soul acts with funky or psychedelic undercurrents would have to cite the Temptations as influences. From the beginning, the Temptations were one of the soul singing groups whose voices melded most smoothly, helping to create the soul sound of the 60's, while earlier R&B singing groups tended to be at least a little more exuberant or raw-sounding -- so in that sense they also influenced all of the singing groups of the 60s who featured this highly smooth style of soul singing.
