It is done in following ways: 1. By placing a proper(convex or concave etc.) lens with an apt value of focal length so that the final image is obtained exactly on the retina. 2. For very distant or small images two lenses are used with fix value of focal length. Among these two one lens is movable. So by shifting position of one lens we can get a sharp image of object. 3. Naturaly our eye lens are connected to various nerves which either by compression or expansion allows our eyes to focus. Yes in this process the thickness of our eye lens(natural) changes.
